The introduction of competition has made a remarkable difference to growth rates for fixed, mobile and broadband in India. TRAI has made an interesting summary here (PDF). Apart from anything else, I wasn't aware that India is the only country in the world to have more cable television subscribers than fixed telephone lines. Competition is heating up to such an extent that 256 kbps broadband can be had for a few dollars per month (250 Rs = about $5 to $6). And in Chennai, BSNL will throw in a rent free telephone line with a broadband connection. Clothed DSL?
