More mobile company bypass opportunities with this launch of IPdrum. The Norwegian company has software and a cable that enables a mobile phone to act as a gateway for Skype. Users dial from the mobile they carry with them to one connected to a PC and the net. Skype completes the call over the Net. To make this interesting all you need is a sympathetic mobile plan and a second handset. A plan that has minutes included or flat rate to certain numbers would be ideal. For the gateway phone you also need to have a plan but as all the calls are incoming fairly much the cheapest of anything will do (unless you are in a country with receiving party pays). Bottom line is that this is a cheap way to turn domestic mobile minutes into inexpensive or free international minutes. When roaming it could also reduce the cost of third country calling. Better still leave your lapstop connected to the Net in a hotel room and use the in country roaming rate. IPdrum says the product will be available in August.
